began by regularly collecting stains from used tea bags on the pages
in a blank journal. The tea was consumed by me or my family. The
spent tea bags were saved and then recycled into hand-made paper
sheets. In the exhibit, many of these sheets, or pages, are in a
loose stack above the book. The handmade sheets of paper were then
spun into a yarn. This paper spinning technique is referred to as
'shifu' in Japanese. Once wound into a ball, the yarn is exhibited
above the stacked sheets. You may notice the end of the yarn is
still flat and unspun.
