Numerous small rectangles of cloth combine to create Rhythm. Each 3" x 2 1/2" rectangle has been rust-printed, rinsed and ironed. The scale of the cloth pages was determined by a little, rusty, metal pan -- seen in the detail. The pan was the starting point for the entire piece. The overall dimension of the wall installation is variable to the site, here it is 216" ht x 108" w. First, a piece of cloth is stretched and tacked to cover the entire wall. Then the prints are arranged and attached along the left edge of the page with tiny tacks. In essence, the pages are hinged and free to be opened from the right edge. A willing viewer may turn a page to see how patterns and color may differ on the backside. The gloves, a museum & gallery vehicle, are included to encourage handling. The fingers have been removed from the gloves. There is no restraint from feeling the texture of the cloth and metallic residue. The fingerless gloves usurp the prospect of archival preservation.
